If until now you could buy a domain.ro for life, starting from March 1, 2018, an annual maintenance fee must be paid. Last year, the Board of Directors of ICI Bucharest approved the introduction of an annual registration and maintenance fee for all ".ro" domains starting on March 1, 2018 . This payment can be made for a minimum period of 1 year and a maximum of 10 years. Until now, when a ".ro" domain was purchased, it had the same lifespan as the owner. The owner did not have to be interested in other administrative aspects except when he wanted to transfer the right of use. With the new regulations, the holder must ensure that the annual fee is paid, otherwise after 90 days from the expiration date, the domain will be deleted from the ROTLD database and will be available for registration by another third party.
How much do we have to pay? The rate charged by the ".ro" domain registry is EUR 6 + VAT / year , but this is a rate offered only to ROTLD partners (accredited ROTLD registrars). ROTLD partners are generally hosting companies that resell domain names. They will also add Phone Number Data an addition. The rate charged by the ICI Bucharest registrar (who makes direct sales on the website is 12 EUR/year + VAT. Practically, if you are the owner of a .ro domain or want to purchase one, you will pay: 12 EUR/year + VAT / domain.ro if the transaction was made through rotld.ro, or if you purchased the domain through one of the ROTL partners, you pay the annual rate charged by it. When do we have to pay the maintenance fee? If you want to know how the expiration date of the domain is calculated, you can find the details below.

The calculation is based on 3 rules (they are not very easy to understand at first glance, but we will exemplify them): Rule 1 : the old registration fee must cover at least 5 years of maintenance Rule 2 : domains registered before 01.03.2013 will receive a minimum 3-month grace period for paying the maintenance service, so that the first domains will expire starting from 01.06.2018. Rule 3 : if the resulting expiration date is earlier than 01.06.2018, the expiration date will be distributed over a period of 6 months, starting with 01.06.2018 until 30.11.2018 based on the calendar month of the registration date, by grouping every two months and keeping the calendar day according to the table below: And now the example with the steps to go through to calculate the expiration date of the domain: Step 1 - add 5 years to the date of registration We start with Rule 1: "the old registration fee must cover at least 5 years of maintenance.
